When many of us were growing up, gym class was more than likely one of your favorite classes. The days when it was teams were especially exciting because you wondered who was going to be one of the captains. Let's just be honest, if you got to be team captain...that meant you were kind of a big deal! You held the power to have a winning team...or a losing one.
The pressure to choose a winning team was always tense. Each captain wanted to pick the strongest, fastest, popular kids first, cause those are the ones who seemed to matter. Then it went to the kids who weren't as fast, as strong, or as popular, but can get the job done. Lastly, the kids who were deemed weak and slow, and the ones no one really seemed to want. There was always that one kid who was picked last, and sadly they knew why they were picked last.
Do you ever think about how God would pick his winning team? Would he only pick those who seemed "popular"? Strong? Important above others? Would he see value in the person who did not have the physical strength, but gave all their heart? Absolutely YES!!! That is who God is! He picks all of us for a purpose no matter what. I think about Moses. Moses did not deem himself worthy to be on God's team. He even told God to use someone else, or at least let him have a co-captain(his brother Aaron) to help him get the job done. You know what? Moses had a whole team behind him to free his people from the wrath of Pharoah. God used him for purpose, he knew he could be an asset to help his captain (God).
David...good 'ol little David. Small, scrawny, but had a lot of heart. Saul was leading the Israelites, and knew that David(could be a last pick in gym class because of his size) could not hold a candle to Goliath and his army. And ya know what? David took a rock and knocked the mess out of that big ol' giant. God used him for a purpose...and he became king(but whew, he went through a lot!).
No matter who you are, your size, strength, social class, or whatever, God is picking you to be on his winning team. You have a place there, and you are valuable to the kingdom. No matter what, you are getting picked. Hey! You are the key to the victory!
