Girls Trip

But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.” When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her. Ruth 1:16-18

We all love a good trip/vacation. Different weather, good food, sights, sounds, and even an umbrella laced drink or two to keep us happy and giddy. Typically what makes these trips even better is when you can take your good girlfriends along with you. Laughs, tik tok videos, adventures, and so much more with the people who can make you laugh until your side hurts. We all love a good girls trip. Yet, what happens when your girls trip leads you to a new and unforeseen destination? That’s what happens with my 2 good girlfriends of the old testament-Naomi and Ruth.

If you’ve read my previous devotional on “Ruth-Like Behavior”, then you are familiar with the backstory of these two women(if not, once you get done reading this, make sure to check it out). Ruth is Naomi’s daughter in law, and both of their husbands are deceased. Naomi is making her way back to Bethlehem, her hometown, and she is encouraging Ruth to return home to her own family. Ruth somehow knows that the future she needs and deserves is where Naomi is going. Think about it: Oftentimes our journey has to intertwine with someone else’s for us to get to our purpose. Ruth had to endure on the journey with Naomi to work in a field owned by Boaz, and by doing that she was able to a part of the process of Boaz looking over she and Naomi and becoming his wife and mother to the father of King David(bonus: this is all up in Jesus’ bloodline).

Who knew that a little girl trip would lead to something even more wonderful and purpose driven? My prayer and hope is that if you have a tribe of sister-girls/girlfriends, that you pray for their journey, as well as your own, to lead to a true and fulfilling purpose.
